Amanda Dams
Amanda is an award-winning maternity, newborn, baby, and family photographer based in Calgary, AB. Originally from Brazil, she moved to Canada in 2015 and proudly calls it home. She runs her full-time photography business alongside her husband, they've been together for over 20 years and are proud parents to two wonderful children, who are the heart of their world.
Amanda has been passionate about photographing babies for many years, but becoming a mother deepened her connection to the work. She truly understands how quickly time passes and how priceless those tiny, fleeting moments with our little ones become. That's why she pours so much love and care into every session.
When she's not behind the camera, you'll likely find Amanda spending time outdoors with her family or enjoying a cozy night in with a good movie (and maybe a little too much popcorn).
About Semi
Semi is one of our amazing photographers here at Amanda Dams Photography, and if you've had a session with her, you know just how fun, creative, and caring she is. She photographs maternity, babies, cake smashes and families in the studio, and somehow always manages to make every session feel like a little celebration.
She's got the kind of energy that makes kids laugh, parents relax, and everyone feel right at home. Semi has a great eye for the little moments, the ones you'll want to remember forever, and she makes the whole experience easy and joyful from start to finish.
About Ricardo
Hi, I'm Ricardo, the studio manager! I am Amanda's husband, dad of two beautiful kids, marketing manager, website designer, bookkeeper, photo session assistant, head of janitorial and everything in between.
I graduated in Economics from Kwantlen Polytechnic University and I also have some background in Computer Science, so you can guess that I'm a big fan of numbers.
Although I am not a photographer, I work on pretty much everything that keeps the business running to leave Amanda free to do what she loves the most!

A little bit about Amanda's journey
Amanda's journey as a photographer started over 10 years ago. She is very proud of every step she took and thankful to all the clients that trusted her to share their memories!
Graduated in Photography at USF
Amanda studied photography at the University of South Florida (USA) in 2010/2011 and she first started working as a wedding photographer.
Specialized in Newborn Photography
Since early 2013, newborn photography is Amanda's specialty and she also enjoys capturing expecting moms-to-be, babies and families. She is constantly learning and improving her skills through photography workshops and in-person and online classes. She had the opportunity to meet and learn in person with some of her favourite newborn photographers around the world: Marta Ponsko, Caralee Case, Jennifer Nace, Luisa Dunn and Stephanie Robin.
Speaker at Two Photography Events in Brazil
In 2015, Amanda had the honour to speak at two of the most important events about newborn photography in Brazil, “O2 Desafio Newborn” and “Newborn Secrets”. The theme of her presentation was creativity and how to create an effective session workflow.
Restarted the Business in Vancouver BC
By the end of 2015, Amanda and her husband Ricardo moved to Canada, and together, they opened their first photography studio in Vancouver BC the year after.
Speaker at LUME
In 2018, Amanda also spoke at the largest photography conference in Latin America, LUME, for about 600 people. It was definitely an incredible experience to share her knowledge with so many amazing photographers!
Moved to Calgary AB
After six successful years working in Vancouver, Amanda and her family decided to move to Calgary. In 2022 they are starting fresh, with a new branding, a new website, and a beautiful photography studio in one of the most popular neighbourhoods of Calgary, Beltline.
In the Media
My work was featured on TV, in magazines and 2 of my images won the Baby Photo Awards international contest in 2018. I made it to the top 100 featured artists by NAPCP in 2018 and 2019. I was also rated as the best 3 newborn photographers in Richmond from 2017 to 2022 by Three Best Rated. In 2021, 3 of my images won the AFNS Award.
Newborn photography is my pride and joy. I feel so lucky to get to do what I love and I feel honoured to capture these once-in-a-lifetime memories for wonderful families.

London Drugs' Campaign
Back in 2018, London Drugs was interested in using one of my newborn photos in their marketing campaigns. Dad brought his hockey gloves for the newborn photoshoot and the photo was perfect. It was displayed on billboards, buses, social media and flyers.
