When should I schedule my baby’s Cake Smash session?
At least 4 weeks before your baby’s first birthday. This gives us time to discuss the theme/colours and your goals for your cake smash session. The whole process, from shooting to receiving the images takes up to 4 weeks, so if you are planning on using those images for your baby’s birthday party, please keep this turnaround in mind. If you are looking for a Saturday spot, I recommend booking at least 6 weeks in advance since this is the most required day for cake smash and baby sessions.
What should my child wear?
I provide a birthday outfit and for full sessions, I recommend bringing at least 2 outfits for family and individual baby portraits.
What does the Cake Smash Package include?
All cake smash sessions include a birthday setup with balloons, birthday outfits, banners and decorations. Cake Smash photography sessions also include some non-birthday setups, parents and siblings shots. The client is responsible to bring the cake.
What if my child doesn’t eat the cake?
This does happen. Some children love the cake smash and dig right in. Others are hesitant. I recommend making a cupcake or small cake and introducing the cake smash idea before (a few days/weeks before) our session date. This way, your child will be familiar with the process and will know that they can smash the cake. Also, bring or have on hand little snacks so we can stuff them into the cake. Your child will want to grab them out of the cake and eat it.
Will I (mom or dad) get messy?
You definitely will! You will have to show your child that he/she can eat the cake so you might have to take a bite yourself. Also, your child may stand up and walk or crawl around, so you will have to keep putting your child back into the designated space. You will get frosting on your clothes so it’s a good idea to bring an extra outfit.
